Therefore, you can feel full for longer if you consume red rice. Researches have been done to understand the effect of a regular red rice consumption, and the results were generally the same. # Controlling Blood Sugar Levels

A problematic issue that’s always lurking around the white rice is the fact that it contains a fairly high glycemic index, which can increase blood sugar level relatively quickly. High and uncontrolled blood sugar can eventually lead to insulin resistance, triggering diabetes. Instead, you can consume foods with a lower glycemic index, such as red rice and thus can reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes. Therefore, you can enjoy the benefits of red rice for diabetics as well.

What they can do is to prevent various more serious cardiovascular diseases, including the life-threatening ones like cholesterol and atherosclerosis. But in order to optimize the result, a healthier lifestyle is always needed.

# Contains a lot of Iron and Zinc

Red rice is a source of iron or manganese. Manganese, which plays a role in producing energy for the body is an important element of enzymes and is also an antioxidant that can protect the body from free radicals that form after the energy produced. In addition, red rice is also rich in zinc, a mineral that can help accelerate wound healing and maintain the body’s defense mechanism to function effectively. Just like iron or manganese, zinc is also a content contained in brown rice that serves to protect the body from free radicals that can damage tissues and cells in the body.

When there is a problem in the liver itself, all the toxins present in the body will remain in the body.

Symptoms of liver damage also include yellowing of the eyes, skin and nails. Not only this, sometimes the color of urine also becomes yellow. This happens when bile juice starts to form more.

5 Most Trending Sunglasses Designs You Need To Try

5 Most Trending Sunglasses Designs You Need To Try

Buying a pair of sunglasses is often a quick spur-of-the-moment decision for many. A shortlist of available styles at a store followed by a quick trial in front of a mirror is all most people do. But, a little more understanding about your face shape and how sunglasses can be chosen to complement it can make a huge difference to your appearance.

* A Round Shape

If you have a round face akin to that of Emma Stone or Mila Kunis, the sunglass shape that will suit you best is a rectangular frame. Round faces have an equal width and length and rectangular frames tend to make them appear longer, thus off-setting the appearance of roundness to some degree. The rectangular shape also enables your face look slimmer than it actually is by providing the right contrast and shifting the focus from your facial shape. Therefore individuals who have rounder faces should select angular frames, which help add definition.

* Rectangular Shape

Go for rimless aviator frames. Aviator frames may be the best bet for a longer rectangular face. As they are wide, they make a long face appear shorter and wider. Round sunglass frames also suit the rectangular face types. People with such a face shape should avoid rectangular eyeglasses as this would make your face look even longer.

* Square Face

A square face has a strong jaw, a wide forehead, and wide cheekbones. Such a strong set of facial features need sunglass shapes that can have a softening impact. People with a square face should try round or oval frames that are narrow. They will provide a contrast and will reduce the appearance of strong angles in all fours. It moderates your face shape.

* A Heart Shape

A heart-shaped face is characterized by a wider forehead and thinner jawline. Since the heart face shape is wide on top and narrow on the bottom, the sunglass style should match this shape. A narrow frame that are narrower at the bottom look best on such faces. A cat-eyed frame is one such example that complements heart-shaped faces. People with heart-shaped faces should avoid aviators because they tend to emphasize or underline the shape of your face.

* An Oval Face

If you have an oval face, you are the luckiest of them all. Every shape of sunglasses looks beautiful on a perfectly shaped oval face, which is well balanced and rightly proportioned. Be it a rectangular frame, a retro square shaped frame, an aviator or a sporty sunglass, you can go wild and crazy and pick up anything you like.

Eat These Foods to Avoid a Blood Clot
Credit: Third party image reference

Blood clots that become lodged deep within the veins of our legs are called deep vein thrombosis, or DVT, and they can be deadly. Not only does the clot block blood flow to the affected area, it can sometimes break loose and travel to the heart or lungs where it has the potential to cause death.

Certain illnesses increase your risk for DVT, including cancer, heart disease, inflammatory bowel disease, and inherited clotting disorders. But there is risk for anyone, even in absence of these conditions. That’s why it is so important to be aware of the role that diet plays in the formation of DVT. There is actually a lot that you can do to make a difference.

Luckily, DVT is treatable if you catch it early enough. But why take the risk when it is so easy to significantly lower your odds of developing a clot just by eating more delicious foods?

None of the 7 clot-prevention foods on our list should be challenging to add to your diet. In fact, we guarantee you’re going to love #7 – we saved the best for last!

1. Drink More Water

Credit: Third party image reference

One serious contributing factor to blood clots is dehydration. When you don’t have enough water in your blood, it thickens. This pushes your risk for a clot way up. Though experts have recently cast doubt on the standard recommendation for six to eight 8-ounce glasses of water each day, making sure you drink at least that much can give you peace of mind.

Another way to check if you’re getting enough water is to look at the color of your urine. It should be light yellow or nearly clear. If it is orange or brown in color, you are not getting enough water to lower your risk of DVT.

2. Eat a Kiwi

Credit: Third party image reference

A diet high in fruits and vegetables is important for health on so many levels, including the prevention of DVT. However, researchers from the University of Oslo in Norway suggest that kiwi fruit rises above the rest in terms of preventing dangerous clots. Their study found that people who ate 2-3 kiwi fruits each day had lower platelet activation, the mechanism by which blood clots, than people who ate none.

Lower platelet activation translates to a lower risk of blood clots, and kiwi was also found to lower cholesterol levels. But don’t worry if you don’t like kiwi. Other fruits that contain salicylates, which inhibit blood clotting, include oranges, strawberries, blueberries, cranberries, grapes, raisins, and prunes.

3. Add Spice to Your Life

Credit: Third party image reference

One of the easiest and most flavorful ways to lower your risk of DVT is to eat a lot of garlic. Beginning in the time of the ancient Egyptians, people have been using garlic as medicine. It has distinct blood-thinning capabilities along with its pungent flavor and odor.

But it’s not just garlic. Other herbs and spices high in salicylates include thyme, curry, turmeric, cayenne, paprika, licorice, peppermint, and ginger. Don’t fall into the trap of believing that a healthy diet has to be bland – add that spice.

4. Switch to Virgin Olive Oil

Credit: Third party image reference

Olive oil is much healthier than vegetable oils for overall cardiovascular health, including the risk of developing blood clots. The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition concluded that it’s the phenols in virgin olive oil that can lower the level of a few substances in blood that promote clots.

It’s super easy to use olive oil for cooking, but you can also infuse it with garlic and other clot-busting herbs to make an excellent dressing for salad and bread.

5. Enjoy Nuts and Whole Grains

Credit: Third party image reference

Both nuts and whole grains are rich in vitamin E, which is a natural blood thinner. Studies show that consuming more vitamin E can not only reduce your risk of developing a first clot, but also stop people who have already experienced DVT from developing further clots.

Great food choices include walnuts, almonds, and hazelnuts.Whole grains like oats, wheat, and lentils are also rich in vitamin E.

6. Focus on Fish and Flax

Credit Third party image reference

Foods that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids help to thin the blood and prevent both clots and strokes. Studies have shown that adding an additional 1.8 grams of omega-3 fatty acids to your diet each day can significantly improve blood flow and decrease the thickness of your arteries.

The best known source of omega-3 is fish, especially salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and anchovies. But there are also great plant sources available for people who don’t care for the taste of fish. Flaxseed and sunflower seeds are rich sources.

7. Sip Red Wine or Grape Juice

Credit: Third party image reference

Here’s the good news. That glass of wine you have in the evenings can actually help prevent the development of blood clots. Red wine is especially good because it contains a high level of the flavonoids that prevent clots by controlling production of platelets. If you don’t drink alcohol, red grape juice is helpful, too.

And even if wine is not your thing, alcohol in general is a potent blood thinner. It appears to work by reducing platelet aggregation and fibrinogen levels (fibrinogen is a blood clotter), at the same time increasing fibrinolysis, which is the process that dissolves clots.

Final Word: Limit Trans Fats

Credit: Third party image reference

We’ve talked a lot about the foods that should be added to your diet to reduce the risk of blood clots and dangerous DVT. They are all tasty foods that should not be too difficult to eat. But nothing is ever totally easy when it comes to health. You must also put some attention on reducing your intake of saturated and trans fats.

Saturated fat increases inflammation, and this makes it difficult for your blood to flow freely. Therefore, it is important to scale back on full-fat dairy products, fatty cuts of meat, and junk food snacks both salty and sweet. Packaged foods also hide a shocking amount of fat, so be sure to read labels in the store.

The good news is that once you bump up the flavor profile of your food with our recommended herbs and spices, drink more water, and enjoy plenty of fruits and nuts, you will feel more satisfied by your daily diet and crave the fatty stuff less. And finally, one of the biggest risks for DVT is a sedentary lifestyle, so make sure you are moving around enough each day, even if you can’t fit in a trip to the gym.

Vastu And Feng Shui Tips For Sleeping Direction

Do you always rate your quality of sleep as a “bad” one? Ever wondered what is keeping you awake all night long no matter how tired you get during the day? Well, you might want to blame it on the high caffeine intake, stressful office meetings, exams or prolonged gadget usage. Although they do contribute to sleeplessness, there is one important factor you are missing out – the direction of your sleep!

Yes! Sleeping in the wrong direction may be the root cause to all your sleep woes. So, the next question – what is the right direction to sleep?

To know the answer, you must first understand the concepts of sleep direction as per VastuShashtra and Fengshui. In this article, we shall take you through the basics of these theories to beat insomnia and get you sleeping well again!

Even our ancient Indian Vastu Shastra and Chinese Feng Shui also say that sleep directions can determine the positive and negative energies in our life, which play a key role in how we sleep. To channelize more positive energy, you need to follow certain principles of science like architectural changes in the case of Vastu Shastra and placing objects in space in Feng Shui.

vastu tips for sleeping direction, feng shui tips for sleeping direction, sleeping position, best sleeping position

Sleeping with Head in East:

We all know that the sun rises in the east! East symbolizes mental awakening and enlightenment, making it a good direction to sleep. Sleeping with the head facing east can be particularly beneficial to students and children, as the positive energies in this direction can improve concentration and memory power. These individuals tend to have better quality sleep, shorter REM cycles and lesser dreams.

Sleeping with Head in West:

As per the Vastu Shastra, West is associated with ambitiousness, zeal for success and high energy levels. Sleeping in the west direction can give you anxiety, restlessness and even nightmares. This is why many Vastu experts opine that the west is not an ideal sleeping direction and can impact your health in the long run. However, there are people who suggest west is a neutral direction which neither helps nor harms.

Sleeping with Head in South:

According to the ancient Hindu beliefs, South is the direction of Yama, the God of Death! In the context of sleep, one who sleeps like a corpse is the one who enjoys good health. So, South can be considered a good sleeping direction as it can promote deep, quality sleep without disturbing dreams. It is important to enjoy this ‘death-like’ sleep regularly for a healthy body and mind.

Sleeping with Head in North:

North is the worst direction to sleep in! From a scientific point of view, North is the positive pole of the earth magnet. In your body, the head is the positive pole. When you sleep with your head pointing to North, the magnetic fields repel and attract negative energies. This is why you tend to wake up feeling exhausted and cranky in the morning. So, avoid putting your head towards the North while sleeping at all costs!

vastu tips for sleeping direction, feng shui tips for sleeping direction, sleeping position, best sleeping position

Benefits of Vastu Shastra Sleeping Directions

* Invite positive energy into the body

* Reduced risk of hypertension, anxiety, depression and anger

* Quality, undisturbed sleep all through the night

* Shorter REM (Rapid Eye Moment) cycles and reduced dreams

* Better body and mind coordination

* Enhanced mental concentration and better flow of creativity

Sleep Tips from Vastu Shashtra:

* Always place the bed in the right direction to enjoy quality sleep. The headboard should point east or South, and the legs must point North or West.

* Couples must sleep on a single mattress than on divided mattresses to avoid their romantic life from getting disturbed.

* You must never sleep in the corners of the room, as it can cause suffocation and also invite negative energies into the body.

* If the room has a beam, avoid putting the bed directly under it as it may obstruct the flow of good luck and prosperity.

* Cluttering under the bed can cause sleeplessness and nightmares. So, declutter stuff and keep the space under your bed empty.

7 Spices That Will Help To Keep Your Heart Healthy

The heart is the source of life – it pumps blood around the clock to keep your organs functional. The heart is a rather resilient organ and functions well under fair conditions. It is easy to take our hearts for granted. We go about our lives as it sustains our every move, unconsciously depending on it to keep us well. For many, the heart goes unacknowledged until we run into a problem. Typically this after something has been off for quite some time, when the body speaks loudly enough to communicate something is wrong.

Heart disease remains the number one cause of death in the United States. Cardiovascular complications can be very serious and life-threatening, and are also largely preventable. Diet, movement and lifestyle all play a critical role in keeping our hearts healthy and strong. They are also the first line of defense for reversing any pathology that has arisen. Herbal medicine can complement these approaches to nourish, protect and strengthen the heart.

# Turmeric

Inflammation is damaging to all organs and systems in your body, including the heart.

Curcumin, the active compound in turmeric, has been found to have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anticarcinogenic, antithrombotic, and cardiovascular protective effects.

Adding turmeric to your diet is easy by using it as a spice in curries, stews, soups, roasted veggies, and even smoothies and hot drinks.

The recommended amount of turmeric to combat high cholesterol and hyperlipidemia is 700 mg of turmeric extract (available in supplement form) twice daily for 2–3 months.

# Ginger

Research shows that ginger may aid in maintaining a healthy heart. Ginger possesses anti-inflammatory properties, reducing oxidative stress that is damaging to the heart.

In several studies, ginger was also shown to reduce cholesterol levels, improve liver function, and reduce blood pressure, all implicated in healthy heart function.

Adding dry ginger as a spice to any cooked meals and using fresh ginger in tea preparations are excellent ways to incorporate this spice into your diet to reap heart health benefits.

# Cinnamon

Research-based evidence has highlighted the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, antimicrobial, anticancer, lipid-lowering, and cardioprotective properties of cinnamon.

These therapeutic properties can be traced back to the active oils and compounds, such as cinnamaldehyde, cinnamic acid, and cinnamate, found in cinnamon.

Cinnamon is great in oatmeal, breakfast cereal, fruit salad, yogurt, tea, or coffee, baked goods, almond butter banana toast, or pumpkin soup.

# Garlic

In addition to its anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antifungal properties, garlic is also claimed to have beneficial effects on the prevention of various aspects of cardiovascular disease, including hypertension and dyslipidemia.

Considerable evidence from the literature supports the invaluable role of garlic in the treatment of hypercholesterolemia through the inhibition of cholesterol biosynthesis in the liver and also inhibition of the oxidation of low-density lipoproteins.

Garlic can be used in its raw form or as a dried powdered spice when cooking, adding lots of flavor to the dish.

# Onion

Similar to garlic, onions have the potential for lowering cholesterol, decreasing triglycerides, and reducing inflammation, leading to cardioprotective effects.

Onions contain powerful flavonoids (pigment-containing compounds) such as quercetin and alkenyl cysteine sulfoxides (ACSOs), which are credited with significant antioxidative, antiasthmatic, antibiotic, and anticarcinogenic activities.

One way of enjoying raw onion without dealing with its overwhelmingly strong pungent taste is to marinate sliced red or white onion in apple cider vinegar overnight.

# Black Pepper

One of the most widely used spices, black pepper, is also a potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory booster and has positive associations with lipid-lowering effects.

Its active ingredient, piperine, is the one responsible for the reduction of LDL (bad) cholesterol and an increase of HDL (good) cholesterol levels.

Black pepper is also rich in vanadium, which may promote cardiac function recovery after a heart attack. Add up to 1 teaspoon of black pepper a day to your meals.

# Chili Peppers

Capsaicin, the major active compound in chili peppers, is used as an analgesic.

This compound has also been found useful in managing other serious and chronic health problems, including obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disorders, various cancers, and dermatological conditions.

Several studies showed that the daily intake of 4 mg capsaicin considerably improved the good cholesterol (HDL) levels and reduced the triglyceride and C-reactive protein levels in healthy subjects.

Depending on your tolerance level, try adding as little as ¼ teaspoon of powdered chili pepper a day or ½ small fresh pepper to your meals and increase up to 1½ teaspoon or 1–2 whole chili peppers to your daily diet.
